Oil and gas crisis has been ravaging the world since the past month. Our kitchens have faced the heat as LPG supply is affected. Long wait times precede getting a refill.
But you need to eat, don't you? And cook too. So how can you make your cylinder last a bit more?
Let's find out 6 hacks for saving LPG
1. The most simple hack is to cook more in quantity and less frequently. Dal, curries, meat dishes can be cooked in large quantity to last at least 3-4 days. These days refrigerators keep food fresh longer, so drop the idea of food getting stale. Leftovers are healthy and good for the kitchen sustenance. Just take out the portion you will need, heat it with a bit of water or microwave it.
2. Outsource some food items like rotis that take time to cook. These days every neighbourhood has roti shops so get them from outside. You can save the gas used for making fresh rotis every day.
3. Thaw food before heating. It saves gas. Heat dry items by putting them in the dekchi where you made hot rice. Cover with rice. See how well they heat in the steam.
4. Soak pulses, rice and dal before cooking. Use the pressure cooker whenever possible.
5. Beverages can be made in tea/coffee maker or water boiled on induction stoves. If you can, store tea in thermos flasks to avoid repeatedly making.
6. Fries and roasts can be done in the air fryer. Just brush the vegetables or meat pieces with a bit of oil and spread them out. Grilled fish or chicken is a healthy way of eating protein. Check out this easy recipe...
