Rendezvous, Monotel: Good place to chill with family and friends

Winter or whatever you have of it in Kolkata, is the time when you can stuff yourself to the gills. And when you are in good company, your appetite increases.

We went for a family and friends get-together to Rendezvous on a January Sunday, and had their lunch buffet spread.

At INR 999, it is pretty highly priced, but the range of items offered is good. And for a 3 star business hotel, the pricing works out, I suppose.

Starters have 2 veg and 2 non veg options, and are unlimited in quantity. The quality and taste of fish fingers, chilli paneer, chicken stir fry were absolutely on point.

As for the main course, we enjoyed the delicious dhaniya shorba, chicken biryani and chicken kosha, which were piping hot, and being replenished regularly. The noodles and pasta had gone cold and dry. Vegetable au gratin was okay. Didn't taste the chilli fish or dal or Bengali vegetables.

One piece of advice: Rotis need to be served hot and not just warm.

Now coming to the piece-de-resistance. The desserts were totally worth it. They had bite sized pastries, cheesecakes, tarts and crumbles. In Indian section, there was a lip smacking Badam halwa, served hot. There was ice cream too.

Only suggestion - a nolen gur Bengali sweet or rosogolla/ pantua could have been added. After all, this city is famous for it's desserts!

Overall a good experience. Only grouse was staff didn't attend us at all. The place was jam packed on Sunday afternoon. However, since our group was more than 10 members, they graciously gave a discount of 20% on the total bill.

Worth a visit definitely, provided you can eat a lot!
