Kadhi with Pakodi - A Super-easy Way

Comfort food means different things for different people. For some, it's rajma chawal, for some curd rice, others machher jhol rice, for some it's dal bati churma or alu paratha.

Growing up in northern India, one of my childhood favourites is the Sindhi/Punjabi dish Kadhi with Pakodi. I don't know why this dish simply spoke to my heart and soul. So much so, whenever I feel my mood is low, I like to have it.

Here's an easy to make recipe:

  • Make a batter with one cup chickflour (besan) and half cup water and a pinch of salt.
  • Chop half an onion in small pieces and coat thoroughly with this mixture.
  • Fry in batches of small dumplings over hot oil.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a bowl, add a cup curd, half cup besan, salt to taste, turmeric, chilli and coriander powder and beat the mixture till smooth.
  • In a wok, add a teaspoon fresh oil and heat.
  • Add a pinch of hing, half teaspoon whole jeera, some curry leaves and a green chilli.
  • Once these start spluttering, lower the flame and add the curd mixture. Keep stirring to avoid lumps.
  • Add the dumplings or pakoras and simmer on low heat.
  • Remove from fire after five minutes.

That's it, your Kadhi Pakodi is ready in a jiffy! Isn't it simple? And tasty too, if you have a taste for slightly sour curries.

Try it and let me know 😊
